mikadams Total Plays: 1265 of 5 songs --> tapegerm home
It started with a Fostex 4-Track, then eventually a 256 mhz computer with one gig of hard drive space and a program called Fasttracker, I am a long time collaborator with hometaping legend Chas. Goff III, having been a co-Turkey in Taped Rugs bands, "Turkey Makes Me Sleepy" and "Magic Potty Babies". Through the years, my computers have grown more powerful and faster as my knowledge base of recording and music has grown wider. Most of what I make these days utilizes programs such as Ableton Live and Reason, as well as lots of VST synthesizers, guitars, samples, nontraditional "instruments" and circuit bent toys. Very recently introduced to Tapegerm Collective and already loving it! I love to record. I love to make sound. Sound is good!

Dental Anguish
241 plays
04:20
Genre: Experimental Post Rock
Album: forthcoming

I've recently found it very liberating to build a song around someone else's sample. It seems to relieve some of the self-consciousness and doubt that I feel when I'm coming up with everything myself. Thanks Tapegerm! This piece uses a great dental drill sample acquired at "The Freesound Project" website http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/index.php Credits: mikadams plays guitar, nanoloop gameboy, Ableton Live, Reason, programs and mixes. Samples from Mental Anguish Open Loops.

Pork Schmork!
116 plays
04:19
Genre: Meditation
Album: forthcoming

I was reading a book by George Carlin in which he was talking about when people say things like "Pork Schmork" or "Consequences Schmonsequences" and how this doesn't work if you happen to be talking about someone named Schmidt, or something like that. This has nothing to do with the song, but most of my songs are named after whatever comes to mind to save them as when I'm getting ready to shut the program down (park and flower photo image by Charles R. Goff III). Credits: mikadams plays Reason and VST synths and manipulates a circuit-bend Speak and Spell. Loops from Ed Drury Guest Artist.

duane's life story (and then some)
104 plays
12:14
Genre: Easy Listening
Album: Satan Oscillate My Metallic Sonatas

Duane rambled on as I recorded. He turned me on to little-known facts such as "The KKK is now called the Aryan Brotherhood and it used to be just whites, but now there's all races, a lot of Indians!" and although only 47 years old, Duane also shared with me his experiences in Vietnam AND Korea. More than anything, though Duane enjoyed telling me about prison, and giving me a very detailed, convoluted and rambling family history! Credits: mikadams-synthesizers, samples and a recording of my once patient, Duane. Samples from Hal McGee from Free Loop Project 015

Recent feedback...

S.S. Sharon listened to duane's life story (and then some) on 02/25/08 19:01:54 and said: "Wow! that was a trip into the unknown...very frightening if I didn't know it so well. Excellent! That's all I can say."

Dave Fuglewicz listened to duane's life story (and then some) on 12/14/07 23:54:40 and said: "Duane is indeed one crazy dude, lost in his own world, battered and buffered, your musical embodiment of this conversation is concise and well produced. A perfect visit to a different Twilight Zone. Is Duane's last name Bush?"

Hal McGee listened to duane's life story (and then some) on 12/14/07 10:47:32 and said: "This is the kind of thing I love. I can be informed and entertained at the same time. I am pleased to know that the KKK (oops, sorry, the Aryan Brotherhood) now accepts members of all races. Hm, where is that membership application?... oh, there it is... right next to my shotgun. Nice use of the Hal McGee loops too. Mike, you crazy! Nice piece, dude. Oh and say hello to Duane for me."

Doctor Charles listened to duane's life story (and then some) on 12/13/07 10:32:34 and said: "Your diagnosis presents the real and the surreal in their proper perspectives Mr. Adams. The synthetic prosthesis brain of sound effect and production transfers the GOA into the KKK with the knife and the gasket until Duane and the Toyota become one. The 38 Special and the shotgun and the lady at the courthouse are all taken care of here, thanks to your careful attention. "

Mental Anguish listened to duane's life story (and then some) on 12/13/07 05:47:33 and said: "Thanks for the TRIP! Excellent slice of madness!"
