Thelonious Octopus Total Plays: 4494 of 12 songs --> tapegerm home
My name is Jeff Stoneking. I've been recording home made music since 1990, starting with just a Casio keyboard and a tape recorder. My first modest efforts were spotty, at best. I even gave up recording for a while because I could not get the sounds out that I wanted.
In 2005, I found a way to record and manipulate my songs digitally, giving me far more control over the songs I create, and helping me to create songs the way I had wanted them in the first place.I have since then created six CDs of home made music.

Songs in this week's top 100 :

TRACK LISTING

( play all hifi ) | ( play all lofi )

Space Baby
329 plays
03:16
Genre: Experimental
Album: Tapegerm Project

"Hal McGee open loops???" you ask, perplexed as you hear none of the familar strains of the ethereal theremin. However, they are there, trust me, used almost exclusively to sculpt this sonic creation.

Taking Hal's theremin loops, I converted them to MIDI and opened the MIDI files in Fruity Loops and had some interesting fun with them in there, and layered the loops together.

Also present is my own voice, also translated into MIDI and further twisted with FL. It created a space language all it's own. Credits: Hal McGee Open Loops

This is not my first attempt at trying to do a cover song (you should hear some songs I mutilated on my early cassettes!) but this is the first one that turned out well enough that I thought others might want to hear it.

Recent feedback...

intrendent listened to Space Baby on 11/09/05 09:02:52 and said: "Hi, Intrendent listened to Space, the track should we Web streamed by our local German Web Radio www.feindsender.net :-)"

Björn Eriksson listened to Space Baby on 10/15/05 02:46:21 and said: "Hey, this is fantastic! I especially like that single tone piano heard starting at 1,31 and 2,09. Also the long distant screaming type of sound (for instance at 0.58) is a favourite component for me. Nice title for a great track too!"

Mental Anguish listened to Love to Make Music on 10/07/05 06:18:16 and said: "Wild mix here with some vox, nice gnarly synths that give off a hypnotic appeal, like the way you used the drum loops also.Slick production."

Buzzsaw & The Phlegm Swillers listened to Your Eyes Are Full of Hate, 41 on 10/06/05 09:59:17 and said: "Like yer track is cool duude! Tight, man! Like gr8, like spooky, dude! Like I wish I could say more, but I'm all like...duude!! "

Buzzsaw and a School of Shavings listened to Blinded By the Stars on 09/30/05 12:10:41 and said: "Seamlessly onward does the tale wrought by the Octopus Optimus continue. Again we attain Weimar Berlin. A pile of reeking sausages stands before an even greater pile of marks that soars to the heights of inflation, laughing dismissively at Tree Line, a region by comparision exactly level with the sole of a shoe. Heard within the grim mind of a local housefrau is this very music, her pondering having to heft a thousand bills for a single sausage. Again Thelonius' mix adroitly and ably captures grit and determination on the Dorotheestasse, an ability given to few, if any others. Masterful, Thelonius!"
