As I recently found a very interesting speech by Harry Houdini from 1914 over at archive.org, where he speaks about his then new invention the Water Torture Cell, an idea arouse of doing something inspired by the great magician and escapist Harry Houdini. Said and done, and especially when Ross Bencina announced the release candidate 1.0rc1 of AudioMulch with the very exciting canonlooper included I soon found myself mixing cascades of drums in circular fade-ins and fade-outs. To me this presented the image of Houdinis metamorphosis acts of magic and escapism. The drums ever changing and taking new forms, never to be caught and stopped, until the very end. As a nice tradeoff of making this little song it got me to read up a little on Houdini which was very interesting. Among other I found out about the sometimes very lively debate he and Conan Doyle had on spiritism. Another thing I learned was the real cause why he died in 1926. The general misconception is that he died when trying to escape from the Water Torture Cell which is totally wrong.
