Buzzsaw & The Shavings
Having spent the better, or at least indifferent portions of the last 15 years or so on the periphery of various too-well defended musical scenes alerted to my presence in a creative Scythia releasing cassette, vinyl and CD indie morsels perfectly spiced to tempt the appetite of Folly, I drew too near to Tapegerm and I was captured in a wend of loop, and in the ensuing struggles to free myself, a fresh provision of Folly decided to call the result a mix. More mixes are forth through ninecoming, but I hesitate to say more as double-digits provoke a bad elevation sickness. Ah, but I seem to be green already, as green as the tracks to be found over at VBC BROADCASTING-Very Bad Considering Broadcasting-Considering what? I leave that answer to you dear friends as you are quite inventive enough to make me feel better. :)

David Fuglewicz
I'm an independent, experimental audio artist. I've been recording since the early 1980's and releasing my work since 1990 in cassette and CDR format. I create with sound to evoke moods, feelings or visions with my sonic sculptures. From euphoria to madness, my compositions can be gently beautiful to obnoxiously noisy.

Cystem
I've been making music for quite awhile. Got hooked on electronic music in the late 80's and started making some in the early 90's. I have a thing for drum loops and a problem being subtle. I play guitar drenched with effects and love hearing what other people do with my loops.

International Garbageman
International Garbageman collects sounds and harmonies. Melts them down. Sometimes something useful can be discovered after this process of garbage handling. Being eclectic minded, he likes simple pop songs as well as complex noise structures. Or why not a mix of both! (I am sometimes also known as Miulew or as my real name Bjorn Eriksson.)

Hal McGee
I have been making homemade recordings of my own experimental, electronic, industrial and noise music since September 1981. In the 1980s I recorded with Debbie Jaffe, under the name Viscera, and solo under the name Dog As Master. From 1984-87 Jaffe and I operated the Cause And Effect International Distribution Service. We distributed more than 5,000 tapes of homemade experimental music. From 1989 to 1991 I published six issues of the homemade experimental music magazine Electronic Cottage. In 1998 I produced the Tape Heads compilation series of recordings by more than 200 audio artists. I have released more than 150 albums, and in addition to numerous solo works I have collaborated with Chris Phinney, Dave Fuglewicz, Charles Rice Goff III, Andrew Chadwick (Ironing), Al Margolis, Brian Noring, Phil Klampe, Big City Orchestra, Jeph Jerman, and many others. I started doing live performances again in 2006 and since then have performed more than 75 times. I am producing the Dictaphonia M...

Zebra Mann
Zee has been creative since the very beginning. Some of his first creative projects involved pencil and paper. Shunning crayons as being too far inside the lines for his outlaw tastes, he graduated to drawings in ink, then onto oil painting. Zee discovered computer art programs in the late 90's, immediately declared oil painting dead, and started transforming his ideas into pixels. From pixels of color to pixels of fonts was his next graduation. Once he realized that using just words was too confining, he discovered that transforming noise into creative mixes was very fulfilling and gave him a broader audience to enjoy his creations. All of his works are certified * Ear Goggle Friendly * Zee only speaks of himself in the third person when he is writing bios, because in real life, such mannerisms sound pretentious. Zee is a lot of things, but pretentious isn't one of them.

Shell
Shell is a solo performing singer/songwriter/guitarist. Her songs are moody and intense taking you on a lyrical roller coaster. Her voice is strong yet soothing and her performances dynamic and mesmerizing. The daughter of a classical singer and vocal music teacher, Shell's vocal talent is inherent. Singing as an alto in her church choir fostered her love of music. She began taking violin lessons at age eight and continued through age fifteen. During that time she also studied the clarinet and bass clarinet, which she played in her junior high school band. By age sixteen she had taught herself to play guitar and by nineteen began writing music and lyrics. Performances at venues such as Alvins and the Detroit Public Library lead to Shell's eventual association with several performance groups. Music became her passion and any place from street corners to dance floors became her stage. This singer/songwriter/guitarist is a native Detroiter performing in the local coffee house and ou...

Michael A Cosma
Former Lead Guitar player with Rogue Elephant finds new home on Tapegerm! After R.elephant disbanded I made tapes as Orpheus , now I jam with Justin Frederick in Aspect and make my own solo tracks. I also appear on several Hal McGee projects and FDR. I have recorded with Red Soda and Jason Butler, and finally Mark Cuzick in Neuroplaster MAWG. Much of this material can be downloaded for free at my Mudball website. I rock like a mad viper sneering at you with sarcastic banter. My music is constructed five to six levels outside of our current dimension using a spiralhelix wormhole ladder. It is compressed and then fortified, mystified, and finally electrofied. I then serve it on an mp3 platter using a light particle spinwheel. Don't try this at home.

Virus Factory
As a musician, Jonas Stoltz aka Virus Factory, has been recording, producing, remixing and touring since the mid-80s spanning a wide range of music styles - from involvement in the early days of industrial to producing Chicago club and house tracks to performing in bizarre experimental theater and soundscaping projects. Many have said his collection of musical equipment is eclectic, consisting of racks of vintage and customized synthesizers, drum kits comprised of metal slabs, a collection of hybrid brass instruments and plenty of non-traditional tools used to create sonic mayhem. And scary as it may seem, he also owns a collection of over 6,000 80's 12-inch singles that he'll own until they pry them out of his cold, dead hands. When not operating his visual/audio media company, Statica Productions, he can be found preparing the technical side of lights, sound and stage for other musicians.

D. Howse
Started to mess around with loops and sequencers at the dangerous age of 14 in 2002. In those days he thought that producing simple tracks would just inspire him in making new moves in the art of "popping" in which he inherited the name "Mista StiFFie"... But producing opened a new door. He took the name "Howse of Rave" (since he only made rave-type music at the time) and was introduced to the Tapegerm Collective in early 2003. He didn't join the TGC until early 2004 where he got himself involved in a collbaoration project with Donhead/ElectroEarwig called "Virtual Religion". Now, just goes by "D. Howse" who lately got himself into theatrical-style musical influences and plans on making a future...

melodywhore
melodywhore began as melody's a whore back at the beginning of 2000. it started as an extension of the synthdog project and eventually became its own entity. the synthdog project was entirely experimentation starting with Acid Pro v1.0. Taking existing loops and editing them as well as creating his own loops, james discovered a different way of expressing himself in music. having just sold all of his equipment to fund a cross-country move, this enabled him to continue with music but was quite a change from sequencing. never-the-less, the results proved to be rewarding. the first melodywhore song was called a brief moment which was followed by grace and many others. using stand-alone synth apps on the computer, james was creating melody loops and taking them into sound forge to edit them in different ways, sometimes destructive. each new song helped in the learning process in adapting to using a PC for musical creation. after joining Acidplanet and mp3.com in early 2000, james met a ...

Mystery Hearsay
Mystery Hearsay is the name for the solo musical projects of Mike Honeycutt. I started networking in the early eighties. I got a copy of C.L.E.M. and wrote to some of the contacts included in this vital pub (edited by Alex Douglas). Later I started mystery hearsay cassettes in 1983- and released a C60 of my solo recordings. The first step release provided me something to trade with. I networked more and more with other indie people and labels worldwide. This exchange led to starting my own cassette label of the same name. The next thing - activities expanded to compiling and releasing compilation cassettes from other indie minded contacts worldwide. NOW tapegerm has made it possible to do all this online - COOL - very cool indeed. Thanks for all the support fellow Germies! ... Good to see YOU and all the interesting Germination in here. I'll try to keep looping away like a good bacteria. Yes, just spreading the infection into new wounds everywhere.

208 and a half
My name is David Pletts and I live in East Anglia, UK. I am 67 and have worked in various jobs including printing, teaching and working on the British railway system. Almost all my life I have had an interest in music, and for many years on and off have been a church organist. About 25 years ago I became interested in electronics, particularly in sound producing equipment. I bought a small synthesisier and did some multi-track recording. Next an interest in computing meant that I was using computers (Ataris and Amigas) for composing, using trackers. Now I still use some pretty basic, inexpensive, software for music making, mainly employing Magix Music Maker, Cubasis VST 5, and AudioMulch with many VST instruments and effects to create sounds and sequence them in addition to using 'found' loops and samples from various sources. Other examples of my music can be found at http://www.soundclick.com/208andahalf By-the-way, all the song illustrations are made by my own graphics progra...

Besides using loops i also like to combine my own work with the aid of numerous VSTi's ....for the more personal touch. If anyones interested i have released several CD's which are available at:

climax Generator
Mike Fuller A Native of the great state of ohio, the one man member of Climax Generator can be likened to the foot soldiers of the Apocalypse. Climax Generator lull the listener in with well written noise melodies and progressive Drone arrangements, then show the darkside with their pummeling industrial force, and intense manipulated vocals that range from nightmare hymns to sound like they emanate from another dimension. There is no accurate way to describe the musical force that Climax Generator executes with a reckless abandon. Power and distorted noise are definitely a staple part of the Climax Generators sound, but the aggressive level at which they are played often brings old school Industrial noise to mind.

Der Schwarze Wolf
I got tired of hearing the stuff that was on the radio all the time and decided to make my own music. I am a Bass player as well. My back ground includes the 80's music through the underground clubs in Ca. I also listen to Heavy Metal and a lot of other various music. Most of my influences come from this so its hard for me to put any influences down. I am not trying to sound like any one but i have been told that i sound like dark wave and house as well as dark trance.

Thelonious Octopus
My name is Jeff Stoneking. I've been recording home made music since 1990, starting with just a Casio keyboard and a tape recorder. My first modest efforts were spotty, at best. I even gave up recording for a while because I could not get the sounds out that I wanted. In 2005, I found a way to record and manipulate my songs digitally, giving me far more control over the songs I create, and helping me to create songs the way I had wanted them in the first place.I have since then created six CDs of home made music.

x-tokyo-river-god
Niveous is usually an acoustic artist but every once in a while, he likes to dabble in the world electronic. With TTS vocals, strangled samples and gothic lyrics, Niveous transforms into x-tokyo-river-god. As time went on, the experiment grew and Niveous' long time collaborator Johnny Cashpoint joined the group. Then the very avant-garde Noah McLaughlin came on board and the group began to evolve and create lush and layered experimental songs. Then Niveous found the perfect compliment to the band in Anti-M, who add not only her ethereal voice but a world of odd instruments. Together with their cyber member Nataly K, the 'God is devoted to making music that pushes the creative envelope.

The Ghosts Lounge
The music of The Ghost's Lounge, part sound art, part pop, and part rock-inspired posturing, is the result of ten years of work in sound, and twenty years of fine-art experimentation in general. During an odd night alone in 1998, a time in which my art was exclusively visual, I attempted a crude sound experiment using three tape recorders and a TV/VCR combo. I recorded with one device while manipulating the others. Soon after, I was mixing sound using many connectors I'd collected from Radio Shack, enjoying the greater control while my neighbors enjoyed the silence. It wasn't until 2002 that I started exploring digital manipulation using Windows Sound Recorder and the freeware drum machine HammerHead, and at that time my style truly began to develop. I now rely very heavily on both HammerHead and WavePad sound-file editing software. The internet has also greatly helped me in my bricollage approach by allowing access to a vast range of audio sources. My ex wife once commented ...

yikaria
Yikaria, or Yak men, are natives of Pillar Mountains (Italy), comfortable among the foreboding heights and deep, hidden valleys of this range. The Yak men have an impressive height and their heads are like those of disgruntled yaks, complete with curved horns and uniformly dour, sullen expression. Male or female, their hulking bodies are coated with thick fur and hair. Yikaria have a number of magical powers that make them a dangerous opponents. To enslave animal or people, these strange creatures use their voices and their bodies to produce an enigmatic and obscure sounds, who delete any conscious thought from the mind of theirs victim. We can’t explain how the Yikaria uses his body and his voice to construct these treacherous but seductive harmonies, but we know that the victims of his music are happily annihilated in a new ecstasy.

While playing bass has been my primary mode of known musical activity I have always had an interest in sound/noise and electronics. My first introduction to this world came when my older brother got Steve Reich's "Come Out" from the library. It just struck a deep nerve. I started doing tape collages with two cheap reel-to-reels and then moved to four-track cassette in the '80's. Currently like most folks I'm using my computer as the hydra-head for my work. My other band related work can be heard via my main website.

It started with a Fostex 4-Track, then eventually a 256 mhz computer with one gig of hard drive space and a program called Fasttracker, I am a long time collaborator with hometaping legend Chas. Goff III, having been a co-Turkey in Taped Rugs bands, "Turkey Makes Me Sleepy" and "Magic Potty Babies". Through the years, my computers have grown more powerful and faster as my knowledge base of recording and music has grown wider. Most of what I make these days utilizes programs such as Ableton Live and Reason, as well as lots of VST synthesizers, guitars, samples, nontraditional "instruments" and circuit bent toys. Very recently introduced to Tapegerm Collective and already loving it! I love to record. I love to make sound. Sound is good!

Systems Theory
Systems Theory is an internet project that started at the rec.music.progressive usenet newsgroup. It consists of Greg Amov (from San Diego), Steven Davies-Morris (from London) and Mike Dickson (from Edinburgh). The project performs a highly cinematic progressive-electronic / world music / prog-rock / fusion hybrid, welding high-tech modern electronica, moody ambience and acoustic ethnic styles with spacerock aggression, a dash of free-jazz exploration, and a splash of old-fashioned symphonic-prog bombast. So this makes Systems Theory an odd "Indie / Avant / Experimental" band, though it could just as easily be classified as "Electronic", "Cinematic" or "World-Fusion". The official project web-site is located at: http://systemstheory.net The project Soundclick page is at: http://soundclick.com/systemstheory The project CD Baby page for the one released CD is at: http://cdbaby.com/systemstheory Greg's solo soundclick page is at: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/gregamov.htm ...

I don't have much to say about myself. I really just wanted some words to fill the blank spot on the page. I suppose though, that I can try to spit something out. I haven't been making music for very long. I stumbled on this site one day and really loved the loops. It had seemed that I found my new sandbox. Since then I have played and played. Whenever I get stressed... this is my outlet.

alastor
In Greek mythology, Alastor is an avenging demon, associated with blood feuds between families, and the Greek term for an avenging power that visits the sins of the fathers on their children. It is also an evil genius of a house that leads a man to commit crimes and sin. He was originally a mortal, the son of Neleus, king of Pylos. He became a (minor) demon when he and his brothers were slain by Heracles.

There are times when you are exposed to something long enough that it works its way through your neural networks and finds its way back out again, filtered through whatever capacities you can bring to it. For the past 18 years I’ve hosted a radio program, Pushing The Envelope – Music Decidedly Left of Center on WHUS, the radio station of the University of Connecticut. During that time I’ve become quite partial to electronic music as well as classical minimalism. From Brian Eno to Philip Glass, these styles have developed, first quite separately, then with the advent of computer technology, coinciding. (Check out John Adams’ Hoodoo Zephyr for a fine example of this.) With the advent of sequencing and sound editing software for the common man, thousands of individuals have been able to express themselves, for better or for worse, musically for the first time. I felt it was my time to jump into the fray.

David Alexander McDonald
DAVID ALEXANDER MCDONALD was born Steven E. McDonald in the tiny town of Warsop, Nottinghamshire, England. He initially lost his marbles about music at the age of seven, but it wasn't until he turned ten that he really went nuts -- that's when he started training as an orchestral percussionist. At the age of thirteen, the McDonald family relocated to Jamaica, where David was introduced, in rapid succession, to reggae, r&b, many varieties of jazz, calypso, mento, African music, 151 proof rum, and Red Stripe beer. Early encounters with Moog instruments resulted in an unrequited case of synthelust, although the desire for knobs to twiddle did not interrupt the headlong charge to beat on other instruments. A novelist, poet, and screenwriter (as Steven E. McDonald), David became involved in the cassette movement with the 1988 release of FEAST OF SET (first as Armand & The Mouse Orchestra, then as Steven McDonald.) Releases continued until 1995's LAKESIDE. After a gap of several years, an...

A long time ago the universe was without form. Hot gases cooled, coalesced, and formed stars and planets. Then the dinosaurs came but they got too fat and died. Small rodents came out of hiding and evolved into Homo Sapiens, one of which started making experimental music in the 1980's using found objects, second-hand insturments, and toys. After many years in bands playing everything from folk-rock to psychedlia he is back to playing with toys and junk and posting it for the world to hear.

The Incomplete Orchestra
Been wanting to make music since 3rd Bass came out with Steppin' To The AM in 1988. And here I am, 21 years later. My first attempt at "looping" was in a lead up to a 1990 talent show performance. I didn't want to use an existing record. So I took sections I liked from vinyl or another cassette tape, and played them on a stereo that could play and record from either. It took a lot, a LOT of patience but I somehow over the period of days, managed to loop beats together. I managed to make a three and a half track out of other CDs and cassettes including a bridge. My song sucked and so did the routine, but that's baby steps for you. You can't learn without planting your face in the pavement first. That's why most people don't learn, they're afraid of the pain. EMBRACE IT! As I graduated high school I picked up a Numark DJ mixer (which I still have) and learned digital looping then and practiced my raps for a few more years. Took keyboard and MIDI in college... then popped out ...

From the city that introduced the world to Al Capone, Eli's Cheesecake, house music, The Super Bowl Shuffle and the 2006 Arena Bowl XX champs the Rush comes native-born, raised and based electronic artist Code Mango. Code Mango creates electronic music in an abstract manner devoted to the universal following one listener at a time (and they tell their two friends and they tell their two friends and so on and so on and so on......), Code Mango's production techniques are summarized as possessing the determined zeal of a mad scientist and the loose approach of a syndicated TV chef (i.e. Dr. Frankenstein uniting with Emeril). Exploring diverse genres and styles of music, extracting each's significant rhythms and sounds, combining them using an unknown random formula and finally, creating output like no other in the musical spectrum, let alone the electronic music field, are beneficial to open one's ears and mind, while bending the imagination like a Twizzle stick.
